This form of therapeutic massage was developed in 1812 by the Swedish physiologist P. Henrik Ling. Dr. Ling combined the scientifically established principles of anatomy and physiology with ancient Chinese techniques and the movements of Swedish gymnasts. This massage involves kneading, stroking, friction, tapping, and, in some cases, shaking and vibrating certain areas of the body. Benefits to the patient include improved muscle tone, circulation and joint flexibility.
Those interested in scheduling a classic Swedish massage please call The Wege Institute for Mind, Body and Spirit at 616-752-6923.
