Also called mind-body exercise, movement therapy is often prescribed for a number of emotional, cognitive, social, behavioral and physical conditions, and is an excellent method of empowering individuals to initiate and manage their own healing. Our practitioners teach such mind-body techniques as Feldenkrais™, Qigong, Tai Chi and Yoga—all of which can be practiced by the patient on a daily basis, either at home or in a class setting.
Movement therapies involve physical exercise along with a profound inwardly directed focus. Attention to breathing, a meditative/contemplative state and an acute awareness of the body are all important aspects of these therapies, as well as skills that can be taught and mastered over time. For individuals who are under a great deal of stress, movement therapy is an excellent way to regain a sense of inner calm and overall well being.
